I don't claim to be a great storyteller, but I am the son of one. My 86-year-old father honed his story-telling skills in the finest school in America: the Appalachian Mountains. Below I list the tips I've picked up from him and other great storytellers I've had the privilege of listening to throughout the years. To figure out the right portion size, use these approximations from the American Dietetic Association:
* 1 teaspoon = the tip of your thumb to the first joint
* 3 ounces of meat = a deck of cards
* 1 cup of pasta = a tennis ball
* 1/2 cup of veggies = a lightbulb
