Mission Year !

We are a diverse community of Christians committed to loving God, loving people, and living out faith and justice in the city.

MISSION

To see people fall in love with Jesus and the city, come alive in their gifts and purpose, build beloved community across all dividing lines, and become advocates for God’s justice in our neighborhood and world.

VISION

The vision of Mission Year is to see, inspire, and join in with a movement of people committed to loving God and loving people in neighborhoods across the country. Our purpose is to develop lifelong disciples, leaders, and advocates who will transform the church, the city, and the world. Our vision is to see the church unified, cultures reconciled, neighborhoods revitalized, and the world redeemed.

VALUES

Faith: We desire to grow spiritually by learning to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves.
Community: We pursue authentic community and mutual relationships where we can know others and be known, give and receive, love and be loved
Service: We show love by addressing the needs of the neighborhood through holistic service.
Partnership: We partner with local churches, ministries, leaders, activists, and neighbors who are transforming their communities.
Neighborhood: We practice neighboring by intentionally spending time with neighbors and loving others in all the ways we love ourselves.
Diversity: We embrace diversity as a gift from God and build beloved community across all dividing lines.
Solidarity: We live simply and sustainably to be in solidarity with those who suffer injustice.
Justice: We advocate for God’s justice and peace in our neighborhood and world.

Distinctives

Christ-centered: We practice living a life as Jesus lived it. We follow Christ’s command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Neighborhood-focused: We live, work, go to church, do laundry, grocery shop, and build intentional relationships in marginalized neighborhoods.
Justice-oriented: We seek to understand God’s heart for justice, enter into solidarity with those who suffer from injustice, and find ways to advocate on their behalf.
Supportive: We provide on-going support, 1-on-1 mentoring, retreats for reflection, and weekly trainings throughout the year for professional development and personal transformation.
“Mission Year has been a companion walking beside me ever reminding me to look to Jesus. To find God in the moment, in the situation, in the city. Truly it has led me deeper into my faith.” Tempest Melvin, Mission Year Team Member

Mission Question

In this moment, how can I best love God and love people?
